Per Ekdahl

Per Ekdahl is a swedish composer, arranger and multiinstrumentalist, born in 1974 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Per started playing the drums at the age of 3. Piano at the age of 7. He attended the Adolf Fredrik Music School in Stockholm and the music programme at Södra Latins Gymnasium (upper secondary school), where he studied under percussionteacher Olle Landsell.

After two years at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Per relocated to Denmark to attend the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, where he held his masters degree in 2000.

In Copenhagen Per made himself useful as a drummer with different jazz- and crossover projects, aswell as touring with different danish popacts. In 1996, his composing and arranging skills managed to win him the 1:st prize in the “Thad Jones Competition” – with his piece “Dimma” for the Danish Radio Big Band. This launched Per’s career as an arranger and orchestrator, and he has since worked for all the leading orchestras and big bands around Scandinavia.

In 2001, Per attended the EBU Arrangers workshop, held by with the Metropole Orkest and composer Vince Mendoza in the Netherlands. The same year he received a stipend from SKAP (Swedish Society of Popular Music Composers).
